The Santanes Valley is a scenic river valley 45 minutes north of Santa Barbara, California. On the west side of the valley is the St. Innes Mountains and on the east side is the San Rafael Mountains. The valley is home to the beautiful Danish-style town of Solvang. Los Olivos has a charming storefront and wine tasting; Buellton is basically a commercial town; Santanes near the Chumash Casino Resort; and the small community of Ballard.
There are a variety of Santanes hotels and other accommodation options in the valley. Solvang is the largest city in the valley with a population of around 5,000 and currently has the most accommodation options, offering more than 700 rooms. Solvang is a popular tourist destination that attracts more than 1,000,000 visitors each year. However, other valley communities also have accommodation options.
As this is a Danish-themed village, most Solvang hotels incorporate Danish style into their exterior buildings and interiors. Solvang is a very pleasant city with more than 150 shops with gifts, clothing, handicrafts, antiques, bakeries, restaurants and tasting rooms. The city also has four windmills, three parks and historic landmarks.
Solvang is an ideal base for exploring the valley and surrounding areas. There are more than 30 wineries within 10 miles of Solvang. Some of the most popular city hotels include Kronberg Inn, Hadsten House, Holiday Express and Hotel Corque.
Solvan also has a number of bed and breakfasts, including the Mirabelle Inn, Meadowlark and Solvang Gardens-Boutique Country Inn. All of Solvan's main hotels are located within a few blocks of Mission Drive or through the town's main streets.
Hotels in Santanes City include Edison Street Inn, Santanes Inn and Sanjacota Motel. This is a more affordable option. However, if you want more entertainment, stay at Chumash Casino Resort, located south of Santa Ynez on Mission Drive. This is a four star diamond rated hotel with over 100 rooms and suites.
Chumash Casino is a 24-hour gaming venue with tens of thousands of feet of casino space, including hundreds of slot machines, a variety of table games, bingo games, keno games and live poker rooms. It also has three restaurants and a gift shop. The Chumash Attractor also has a performing arts venue that attracts renowned performers such as Sheryl Crow, Meat Loaf and Penn & Teller. It also occasionally mixes martial arts and boxing matches. Santa Ynez is only a five minute drive east of Solvang.
Buellton travels along Highway 101. As a result, there are numerous hotels, including Quality Inn, Days Inn and Motel6. Buellton is just a 5-minute drive west of Solvang.
Los Olivos and Ballard are the two smallest communities in the valley. Los Olivos is a charming Victorian town with a large tasting room. It has Fess Parker wine country inn and spa as well as Los Olivos Grand Hotel. Ballard is small but has a Ballard hotel and restaurant.
